BIFFY CLYRO Re-Arrange in New Music Video
BIFFY CLYRO unveil dream-like clip for track Re-arrange.
The Scottish trio has recently released a video to accompany Re-arrange, taken from their latest studio-album, Ellipsis, their most personal record to date.
The track itself is one of the album’s most emotionally loaded. It functions as an open letter from frontman Simon Neil to his wife who helped him through the recent periods of darkness that are reflected on the album.
Musically the song is Biffy Clyro’s ‘biggest departure genre-wise’ as drummer, Ben Johnston states. With the sonics of it drawn from R&B and trap music, it is definitely a considerable departure from their usual classical rock statement.
This was our kind of attempt to put a bit of that trap swing on, and it’s probably the least rock song we’ve ever made. I think that was why we embraced it so much because it just felt very confident in that song – Neil explains.
Despite the trap context of the tune, it definitely has a shadow side to it. “I’ve got a lot of love / And I’ve got a lot of ways to show it / You should know by now that I’m broken / And I need your help”. The introspective lyric is scattered with self-doubt and a sense of guilt, all reflecting the gloomy headspace the frontman said to be in during the early stages of making Ellipsis.
This is further explored in the new video with its grainy aesthetic and surprising intimacy. The video features ghostlike footage of Neil, surreal imagery of hand-close-ups and faceless figures and low-fi clips of the band on a beach. The video is filmed in an area close to where the band grew up, just adding on an extra layer of nostalgia to the mix of emotions.
What’s more, Biffy Clyro have just embarked on a headline UK tour. See the dates below!
