In an ‘Elevator’ with HOLY HOLY
With a name most suitable for this festive time, Holy Holy cranks up the Christmas spirit even further by gifting us with a marvel of a video for recent single Elevator.
The vibrant single showcases the Aussie duo’s development, exploring further guitar-driven territory.
Driven by two chords, Holy Holy master the art of not getting boring, much helped by marvellous drum-work and hazy vocals. We definitely wish we enjoyed the Aussie summer right now.
The video, directed by Charlie Ford (Courtney Barnett, Vance Joy), features a female protagonist alongside live glimpse of the guys. The night-light aesthetic gives a luminous touch to dull Sidney streets, and the constantly changing light throughout car-drives and hotel scenes parallels perfectly with the joyous tune.
The video grows increasingly surreal, as the intoxication of alcohol is introduced, illustrated with blurred lines and slow motion effects. Climaxing in a red-blue lit love-scene, the floaty vocals on the track aligned perfectly as the video fades out.
Charlie Ford comments:
The film was inspired by the key themes of memory, history and the undying connection that lovers share.
Timothy Carroll from Holy Holy adds:
The song has a story built into it so for this clip we wanted to just tell that story. So this clip is like a short film based on one night in the lives of two people who are ex-lovers seeing each other for the first time in a couple of years.
Following Darwinism, Elevator is the second single to be unveiled from Holy Holy’s forthcoming album, and we can only hope the record will be just as good.
The duo is set to release their sophomore LP, Paint, on February 24th 2017.
