Danish MEW Unveil New Magical Tune ‘Carry Me to Safety’

Seventh album announced for spring release.

The Danish trio released their first single of the forthcoming album Visuals, and let me say, it sounds amazing.

The mesmerising, Carry Me To Safety is set to be the album final, closing another chapter of Mew’s surrealist story. Bjerre’s idiosyncratic vocals soar as the centre of the tune. The continuous escalation of the song has it growing out of this world, out of this galaxy. The Danes dreamscape is entirely their own, and twenty years into their career, Mew still keep their distinctive sound intact.

Unlike previous albums, Visuals arrives fairly quickly on the back of 2015’s + – album. It is also their first record following the exit of guitarist Bo Madsen. Front-man Jonas Bjerre explains that:

The live shows around that album saw us hit a creative peak, writing tracks on-the-road and the spark was lit. Breaking the normal cycle felt right and we wanted to make an album spontaneously retaining the energy we’d generated on that world tour, rather than wait the normal three or four years.

The Danish group is set to release their seventh studio album titled Visuals this April. It was recorded and self-produced in Copenhagen, and completed in under a year.

Having each song represented its own little chapter and narrative the record sees Mew at their most concise. Many of the newer tracks evolved in light of what was happening globally.

It was pretty dark last year on many levels, so lyrically that definitely came into play, it’s an important reminder to treasure the here and now.

Visuals due out April 28th via Play It Again Sam with track list as follows:
