Live: MISTERWIVES // Scala, London

MisterWives brought their full rainbow of colour and energy to Scala last Thursday night.

The New York-based six-piece came out in full polka dot/checkered glory to open their phenomenal set with Machine. This self-empowering banger of a song set the tone for the rest of the night, with frontwoman Mandy Lee’s powerhouse vocals taking center stage.

The rest of the night followed in similar fashion. From song to song Lee continued to impress the crowd, showcasing the softer side of her range with their cover of Same Drugs by Chance the Rapper while flipping completely to a grittier presence on Oh Love.

The band’s second full length album Connect the Dots was released in May of 2017 and provides an excellent example of growth from the band. MisterWives didn’t miss a beat while recording this album and it is evident in the way they performed the songs. The record is a collection of songs and melodies that any band would be proud of.

The usually stiff London crowd was sufficiently danced-out by the end of the night. The encore saw the introduction of three drums to the front of the stage for the final song Our Own House. As a beloved single off of the first album, most of the audience was screaming every word back to Lee, providing an exhilarating and drum-filled ending to a wonderful set.
