CROWN THE EMPIRE Release Video for New Track ‘what i am’
Crown The Empire are back with more new material, this time in the form of soaring single what i am.
Following their previous track 20/20, Crown The Empire have released their second single since their 2016 album Retrogade.
what i am is a heart-wrenching, thrilling single that will leave your hairs standing on end with the emotional punch it packs. Revealing a more melodic side to the band’s catalogue, Crown The Empire show they are masters at creating tension as they build up from the urgent “it’s telling me something” to an explosive chorus as all the instruments kick in. Featuring a delicate bridge of dainty piano and exposed vocals, there’s a real emotional tension brimming underneath the track.
The video reflects the metaphorical breaking away explored in the lyrics; the band start out as a science experiment under observation, before shattering the two-way mirror from which they are being observed and becoming free of their restraints.
Speaking about the track, vocalist Andy Leo says:
‘what i am’ is the most important Crown the Empire song we have released yet. Throughout the past few years, I have been involved in some rough relationships, with various people. I spent a lot of time writing the lyrics to this song because I was not having an easy time being so vulnerable and I HAD to get these words out for my own sanity. It’s hard for anyone to ask themselves, ‘Did I make the right decision here? Am I being selfish or am I finally focusing on myself to be a better and happier person?’ The answer was 100% ‘yes’ and I hope that this song will help anyone who feels the same way.
