GRANDSON Releases Video for ‘6:00’
Your mind will be left reeling after you watch the video put out by grandson for his single 6:00.
The newest video from grandson certainly isn’t a light watch, and aims to provoke dialogue with its challenging themes.
Acting as a commentary on police brutality, especially against minorities, it’s a fast-paced, action-packed music video that certainly makes a loud statement and comments on the phenomenon. The video, directed by Gus Black, was released in conjunction with Campaign Zero, an organisation dedicated to eradicating police violence in America. Violent scenes are juxtaposed against a man dancing, placing horror next to beauty, and it is doubtless that the video is charged with pressing topics that demand to be addressed.
Lyrically, the song is similarly hard hitting, as grandson leaves the sugarcoating out as he sings “Gotta sink or swim, now it’s do or die”. Electrifying guitar lines draw out the searing emotional intensity behind the track, and the increasingly agitated vocals reflect the frustration at this predicament that this generation is faced with. grandson manages to combine politics and music in this video in a way that will strike a chord within you and call you to action. And although it may not be an easy watch, it’s an important video with a critical message.
grandson is set to support Rat Boy on UK tour later this year.
