In Short // DMA’S
Ahead of their UK headline tour this week, we catch up with Tommy O’Dell to talk about life on the road and plans for the New Year.
With 2018 coming to an end, what’s the best thing that’s happened to you this year?
Probably selling out our UK tour in the first week. That’s a first for us and a great way to bring in the New Year.
And what’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you when touring?
We had to stop one of our shows because someone in the crowd had hurt their leg. It was a strange feeling after the gig not being able to finish the set but we were worried if the guy was OK.
With your UK tour in December coming up, do you have any special memories from playing over here?
Finsbury Park was a standout gig for us. Great bill and great weather, it was a top day.
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Not really, just listen to a few of the same tunes each night. A bit of Paul Kelly, Groove Armada and Orbital.
And who’s the messiest one of you on tour?
Our bass player.
Name one thing you’re scared of.
And pick one song [but not one of yours] that could be the perfect soundtrack to your life right now.
Orbital: Halcyon – On and On.
What advice would you give to new bands?
Write as many songs as you can early on.
Do you intend to make any New Year’s resolutions?
To remember peoples’ names.
And, finally, what should we expect from your upcoming UK shows?
A similar set to usual but we are going to strip a few songs back in the middle of the set. We’ll play for longer too.
DMA’S have recently released music video for the track Time & Money, taken from their second album For Now. Watch it below.
