SLAVES’ New Video for ‘Bugs’ Is an Ode to Local Pubs

The English punk duo has teamed up with Long Live The Local to celebrate and save British pubs in their newest music video for Bugs.

Slaves Bugs 2019

Bugs is taken from the band’s 2018 album Acts Of Fear And Love.

The video shows band members Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman performing in a traditional-looking pub in front of a handful of their fans. After about a minute, they’re seen in the same pub, but this time it’s empty, leaking water, and missing electricity. The guys keep rocking out regardless, while the ceiling is slowly caving in on them. The video ends with two workmen boarding up the window and the message “keeping pubs alive, keeps music live.”

Pubs have originally always been a breeding ground for new and upcoming bands, a way to expose themselves to a possible audience. As Slaves say:

Without pubs we would have had nowhere to start our career. Pubs are so important to the careers of musicians. They are pillars of communities and need saving.

According to David Cunningham, programme director of Long Live The Local, three pubs a day close their doors in the UK. Those are countless opportunities for upcoming artists gone to waste. Slaves are doing their part by calling for awareness and rallying for change, and 2019 will hopefully see them at different festivals throughout the summer.
