Philly quintet Grayscale proved themselves to be everything and more as they took over Electric Ballroom last Friday.

Joining Real Friends on their UK tour, Grayscale completely overshadowed the headliner with their energy-packed set. Spinning the tracks from their sophomore album, Nella Vita, released in September, the band had the whole of Electric Ballroom jumping along and dancing around to their infectious blend of pop rock.

With a cinematic quality to their sound, In Violet and Baby Blue hit hard from the get-go, setting the fast-paced tone for the night. Bringing forth their massive soundscapes, the band’s stage presence and dynamic was truly captivating. From electrifying guitars to urgent drums, to Collin Walsh’s powerhouse vocals ricocheting off the walls, the performance they delivered was everything you could have hoped for.

Accompanied by relentless crowdsurfers and moshers, Painkiller Weather went down as an absolute live banger, skyrocketing with singalong choruses and breezy melodies. Elsewhere in the set, YOUNG and In My Arms were sure to create a perfect opportunity for the audience to show off their dancing moves. Balancing between heavier and lighter notes, the old school fan favourite Palette only added to the madness, whilst Old Friends took things down a notch with its reflective and swaying vibe.

By the time they were rounding things off with their hits Fever Dream and Atlantic, Grayscale had the crowd in the palm of their hand, once again reminding us all that you should never miss the opening bands. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long until they head out on their own UK headline tour.
