HAIM Unveil New Single ‘Now I’m In It’
LA sweethearts HAIM have returned with new single Now I’m In It, complete with a fresh collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson.
The single follows the success of summer hit Summer Girl, released shortly after the band’s headlining appearance at Pitchfork Music Festival. Now I’m In It is beautifully honest in its writing and the music video is a perfect visual, illustrating feelings and emotions surrounding depression (with a bit of Los Angeles flare).
In a recent Instagram caption, Danielle Haim opened up about her struggle with depression and how difficult it is to stop and get help. In a time where there is so much expectation placed on appearances her story is a breath of fresh air.
“For my sisters and I, there have been times in our lives where we have felt like we are stuck in a dark hole. This track speaks to that emotion. The track is chaotic – like my mind when I’m spiraling.” The video follows Danielle as she goes about a tedious day. Her actions and facial expressions showcase a numbness associated with a depressive state. The lyrics are pleading, with Danielle singing “gotta get out of this situation.” One particularly heart wrenching visual shows Este and Alana wiping Danielle’s tears and dressing her for a night out.
Paul Thomas Anderson, who also directed the group’s music videos for Summer Girl and Little Of Your Love, has hit it out of the park. The video celebrates HAIM’s openness in discussing such a personal topic yet stays true to their warm, California visual style. Filmed at various locations across Echo Park, the video is a true love letter to HAIM’s beginnings. After the release of these two singles, the anticipation builds for their third album.
