MOYKA Reveals Video for ‘Kanazawa (Maybe We Don’t Have To Go There)’
Melancholic yet vibrant, Kanazawa (Maybe We Don’t Have To Go There) is “a symbol of all these places and dreams that fell away.”
Norway’s Monika Engeseth aka Moyka delivers a breezy, summery soundtrack in the form of her sophomore EP, Spaces. Turning heartbreak into golden cry-dance to songs, the artist celebrates the release with her newest single Kanazawa (Maybe We Don’t Have To Go There).
Inspired by a city in Japan, Kanazawa (Maybe We Don’t Have To Go There) is a sparkling post-breakup anthem that flourishes with twinkling synths and vigorous drum machine-heavy beats. Warm vocals and sweetly sad lyrics guide us through the glittering soundscape as we fall into the void of moments that should’ve been, could’ve been, and would’ve been. A playful take on the end of a romance, the track arrives accompanied by a video that serves as a mirage of distant memories and stories that never happened.
Speaking of the track, Moyka shares:
When you’re together with someone you create all these wishes and dreams to go and see places together and when you break up, all those things just fall away. Kanazawa is a symbol of all these places and dreams that fell away.
Revealing more about the theme of the EP, she adds:
The theme of this EP is mostly about the loss of a longterm love. It’s about losing both someone’s closeness and friendship, and how I’ve tried to fill in the spaces of what’s left of them. It’s about trying to both look forward and move on from the heartbreak.
