Turning towards a more somber, poignant sound, Dava lets down her walls and shares some of her vulnerabilities in tender new single Papercut.

Sharing a part of yourself that you’ve previously kept hidden away is never an easy feat, yet the subtle delicacy which Dava opens up with in Papercut makes this feat all the more admirable. Turning away from the relaxed, summery vibes that manifested in her previous two singles, we’re introduced towards a more brooding side of the artist with somber new cut Papercut. Dava’s airy vocals adopt a more melancholic tone, made all the more striking by the feeling of frailty that comes with the lack of assertiveness. With heart-rending lyricism, the words cut straight to the core as Dava laments, ‘you’re just a papercut.’

Explaining more about her inspiration for the track, Dava shares:

I’ve realized that no family, friendship or relationship is perfect. When trust is broken it’s very hard to mend, and those wrongdoings may seem unforgivable. With time though, most situations reveal themselves to be minor papercuts. We can allow ourselves to move on, we can heal from these things. Although the song itself has a dark connotation, it brought a lot of clarity and forgiveness to the relationship that inspired the song.
