THE DIRTY NIL Release Music Video for ‘Damage Control’

Mythical wizards, predicting the future, and a live set on fire; The Dirty Nil pull out all of the stops for their newest animated music video for Damage Control.

The Dirty Nil 2021

The Dirty Nil are back with a statement music video for Damage Control, lifted from their most recent album Fuck Art which was released on the first day of 2021. With sleazy riffs and ambling basses, Damage Control is the track to turn to when everything else seems to be falling apart around you but you can’t quite bring yourself to care too much. Swaggering through with a confident energy, and vocals that waver on the line of constraint, it’s a track that captures some of our innermost emotions as we tackle through the obstacles thrown up by life.

Sharing more on the track, the band explains:

‘Damage Control’ is a song that touches upon both the hard moments in life, as well as our individual perception of those moments. We all want to run “damage control” when things aren’t going our way, but the reality of the situation is different in the minds of each person involved. I was quite drawn to the line “beware the things you wanna feel, ‘cause that don’t mean they’re real.” To me, this line speaks to our ability as people to gravitate towards feelings, or our own personal bias, but in the process losing touch with a shared, concrete reality.

The band teamed up with animator and director Greg Doble for an entertaining twist on the track title, as the band has their future predicted by a mythical wizard to see a lot of damage control in the face of live sets catching fire and electrocutions from guitar amps. Speaking about this, Greg mentions:

For the music video, I wanted to break those two pieces of the song along very literal lines: There is the peril that each band member experiences, but on the other hand, we keep being pulled back out of a dream state and left wondering if any of this is real. The personal bias is made literal by the fact that the wizard in the story is toying with The Dirty Nil’s perception of reality and the possible future.
