US-based psych-poppers Spaceface are back with another slice of fun in the form of their most recent single Happens All The Time. Describing themselves as a group playing ‘retro futurist dream rock’, there are certainly elements of it present with dazed-out vocals and staccato guitars providing shots of energy. Wavering between upbeat verses and a more mellowed-out chorus, the contrasting tempo keeps listeners constantly on their toes and certainly offers a thrilling journey to whizz you away into the band’s whimsical world. Woozy echoes lap into your ears to make you feel as if you’re living within a dream, and transcends physical boundaries to lift you into a fantastical and kaleidoscopic fantasy.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, vocalist and guitarist Jake Ingalls shares:

The track is about that dreaded feeling of knowing you’ve seen or met someone before and not quite remembering their name but knowing it’s gonna come up and you just gotta deal with it because at the end of the day, it really does happen all the time. And it’s no biggie.

The single release is accompanied by a music video which sees the band in puppet form, made out of toilet paper rolls and complete with miniature instruments. The playfulness of the video matches the light-hearted tone of the track to offer a fun, all-round experience that you will want to dip your toes in again and again.

Director Dave Bizzaro adds onto this:

When Jake came to me about creating a music video it was three months after the pandemic hit NYC. All TV and film productions had halted and I was held up in my apartment making puppets out of leftover toilet paper rolls like a mad man. Jake called me up one day and asked if I could create a puppet-driven music video with sock puppets for his new album. I said, “Of course, but what if the puppets were all elevated toilet paper roll puppets with rad robes and miniature instruments made of cardboard?” He loved the idea and we began to collaborate on the look, tone, and style of the video.
