SOFTCULT Share Visuals for New Single ‘Spit It Out’
High-spirited and admirably self-assured, Spit It Out is an unforgettably feminist anthem with edgy, cinematic visuals which embolden the track’s outspoken lyricism.
Softcult are an electrifying Canadian duo comprising of Ontario-based twins Phoenix and Mercedes Arn Horn. An empowering project against the misogyny and sexism prevalent in society, of which they have personally encountered, Softcult create unashamedly forthright and inclusively feminist anthems. Intentionally provoking reactions, Softcult importantly empower not only Phoenix and Mercedes, in a largely male-dominated industry and society, but also the band’s spirited listeners.
After releasing their debut EP Year Of The Rat, Softcult have shared the music video for their unapologetically direct single Spit It Out. The visuals contrast between vibrantly red, gloomy backgrounds and pure white scenes, which cleverly echoes the sonic highs and lows of the infectiously rebellious track.
Softcult share:
We wrote ‘Spit It Out’ about rejecting harmful ideologies that we’ve come to accept as normal, even though they perpetuate our own oppression. Most people understand that misogyny, sexism, racism, etc are wrong, but don’t often notice when it occurs in our everyday lives, in the media, or how we’ve been conditioned to perceive the world. It all starts with questioning them in the first place, and then deciding that we aren’t going to continue to contribute to them.
Reflecting the twins’ desire to ‘make real change’ in an unjust and patriarchal world, the visuals for Spit It Out vividly depict feminine defiance and strength.
