Artist Of The Week // HĒIR
Bringing an invitation to step into her dreamy sonic world, HĒIR tempts you in with her newest single Nobody Wants Me.
Russian-born, London-based creative HĒIR has had a fair share of exposure to the arts in various aspects, having followed her musician parents around the globe and modelled for a few years in national campaigns. It’s clear that her charm extends into multiple spheres and can’t be individually categorised, and so it shouldn’t come too much as a surprise that she will have you stumbling head over heels for her swooning new single Nobody Wants Me.
Bringing a whimsical sound through woozy guitars and casual beats, it’s effortlessly lovable and relatable as HĒIR sighs ‘nobody wants me’, a feeling that the best of us have encountered when we’ve had a glass too many or spent too long scrolling through social media. She candidly captures the emotions we experience when we’ve spent too long disconnected from our loved ones, but connected to a virtual reality where genuine connection feels difficult to establish.
Speaking more about the writing process behind the track, she shares:
‘Nobody Wants Me’ came after years of realising everybody wants what they see on a filtered platform. Everybody wants the happy life you showcase and that perfect version of ourselves we all portray. It’s when real life hits that sometimes people don’t stay. Everyone’s there for the party and nobody’s there for the clean up. We are all so complex, there’s no such thing as complicated or not complicated, the more we experience the more we come with a history and not everybody is willing to understand and hold your hand through it all. Everyone wants you but they want the idea they have of you. I partnered up with Fudasca on this track sent the demo to him and he jumped on it immediately. It basically become a LIGHTWEIGHT HAPPY song with a bit of a sad subject. Basically the metaphor of how we feel vs how people see us.
Feeling drawn in by her ability to sum up how we feel and the intoxicating sound that she sets it to, we spoke more with her about how she re-found her spark and the portrayal we display on social media.
What’s a motto you live by?
Don’t think about what others might think of you. I think we sometimes end up not doing great things because we’re afraid of public perception.
If your sound had a colour, what colour would it be?
Probably green. It’s my favorite color in general and it’s so diverse in all its tones from mint to acid to pistachio. I like to think it resembles the many tones my music can have.
If you could set Nobody Wants Me to a TV show or movie, what would it be the soundtrack for?
Probably a 90’s Bridget Jones lol.
How did you work through the difficulty of having the pandemic and lockdown kick in when you released your EP?
It was honestly one of the hardest moments of my life just like for everybody. It was hard to release something without being able to promote it. Also it was the very beginning when we weren’t even calling it a pandemic yet. It was very hard to write afterwards but Nobody Wants Me was there very first one I’ve written.
What helped you re-find your creativity and focus to write a good song with Nobody Wants Me?
I think after all the craziness my head went into a “what have I got to lose” territory so I stopped overthinking.
You mention that people want the idea they have of someone; how do you think you portray yourself?
I think people see what they see on social media, that goes for all of us. I don’t know how I portray myself to be honest, I think I stay pretty true to who I am. But it’s safe to say I showcase my best moments more than my worst lol.
What idea would you want people to have of you?
I’ve never thought about that but I think I would like people to know more about me as a writer and artist more than of Patricia as a person. Because those are two very different people.
And finally, slightly cliché but what does music mean to you?
Music to me is… you can say anything, the simplest, best and worst things in the world gain a whole new meaning and level of special.
