Live: BLACK HONEY // Heaven, London
Brighton rock outfit Black Honey’s UK tour comes to an end with a sensational night in Heaven.
There could not have been a more fitting location than the legendary London venue that has long been associated with the LGBTQIA+ scene, as Black Honey have been known to be exponents of equality. Their sophomore album Written & Directed, a collection of empowering cinematic anthems, is their first top 10 album, charting at #7.
Filled with electrifying hooks and punchy basslines from opener I Like The Way You Die through to old favourite Hello Today, the four-piece had no trouble keeping the crowd captivated as evidenced by the mosh pit that perpetuated in the centre of the room. Tracks from their 2018 self-titled debut album I Only Hurt The Ones I Love and Dig fit perfectly amongst the likes of the more recent Beaches and Believer.
The voice of frontwoman Izzy B. Phillips, syrupy in Corrine and piercing in Spinning Wheel, often lent to the marginalised, called for the women and non-binary people to the front, establishing that it was a safe space for them before tearing into the poignant lines of Fire.
With Disinfect‘s pounding riffs and Run For Cover‘s infectious melody, the night drew to a close as Black Honey proved themselves worth every moment of the three-year wait.
