Live: SEA GIRLS // O2 Academy Brixton, London
Indie rock quartet Sea Girls proved there’s no such thing as too much fun with an electrifying evening at their homecoming show at the O2 Academy in Brixton.
Sea Girls‘ debut album, Open Up Your Head, peaked at #3 and was clearly mere fuel to the fire in every single one of the fans that flock to see them at every opportunity.
The band’s knack for instantly anthemic tracks such as their first single and opener Call Me Out was undeniable as they churned out a series of crowd-pleasers including Violet, Ready For More, and Damage Done. It’s hard to tear your eyes away from guitarist Rory Young ricocheting around the stage like the ball in a pinball machine, at times threatening to topple over but somehow managing to stay on his feet.
A surprising but expertly executed cover of Adele’s Someone Like You saw frontman Henry Camamile in the spotlight accompanied only by Young on the long-awaited day of the pop icon’s return. Between belting out All I Want To Hear You Say while confetti sprayed into the air and showing off his falsetto in teaching the audience the chorus of new song Lonely for them to sing it back, it’s a wonder Camamile had a voice at all by the end of the night.
Pieces of confetti floated around Camamile as he returned to the stage solo for the encore, a picture of life imitating art as the lines “It was Brixton that night, you walk in, what an entrance, what a sight” echoed across the room in a moving rendition of You Over Anyone. A final burst of confetti spewed out from the canons as Sea Girls closed with Sick, another glimpse into their upcoming album, which if tonight was anything to go by, will be nothing short of spectacular.
