HIGHASAKITE Release Striking Single ‘Mother’
Lyrically introspective and synthesised to perfection, this track’s chorus explodes in desperation as vocalist Ingrid Håvik passionately belts out “I need to call my mother.”
Hailing from Norway, Highasakite are a formidable indie pop duo consisting of singer/composer Ingrid Håvik and drummer Trond Bersu. Whilst studying jazz at the Trondheim Jazz Conservatory, the duo met, formed their band and soon recruited producer Thomas Dahl to play bass and guitar, and Øystein Skar to play synthesizer. Renowned for their electrifying live performances, Highasakite have twice sold out headline shows at Oslo Spektrum, which boasts a capacity of 9000, and performed at internationally noteworthy festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude and Roskilde.
Their eye-opening new single Mother is simultaneously the title track of their upcoming fifth album, which is set for release on 28th January. Underlining the album’s juxtaposing themes of birth and death, and cyclical renewal and destruction, Mother is a uniquely negative and highly critical depiction of motherhood.
Describing the song’s complex subject, vocalist Håvik shares:
The mother I’m writing about is more like a tarantula, the mothership, the destroyer and creator. That’s what mother is to me.
With ground-breaking production which effortlessly complements Håvik’s stellar vocals, the tender lyricism in this track will envelop you in chills.
Speaking about the single as a whole, Håvik states:
It is in one’s most desperate situations that one calls one’s mother. When you are not able to stand on your own feet anymore.
Following the release of their upcoming album at the end of January, the Norwegian duo will be once again astonishing UK crowds as they headline London’s Islington Academy on 27th April.
