As well as being the go-to producer for a wide range of breakout artists, such as Gracey, Tkay Maidza and spill tab, British musician, songwriter and vocalist Oscar Scheller possesses his own striking discography of three albums, an EP and a plethora of singles and collaborations. Recognisably one of Ashnikko’s major collaborators, Oscar produced the smash hit gold single Stupid feat. Yung Baby Tate, and multiple tracks on her 2021 DEMIDEVIL mixtape. Since the release of his album Boys Cry in early 2021 and his work on PinkPantheress’ mixtape to hell with it, Oscar has released infectious single Weirdo and now teams up with indie superstar chloe moriondo on a new track.
Inspired by negative emotions and experiences, Hard Being Alive seizes all of Oscar and chloe’s sorrow and admirably channels it into a catchy tune. Particularly resonant because of pandemic-induced pessimism and hardships, this thrilling track is a lyrically authentic but sonically uplifting depiction of fluctuating mental health.
Scheller comments:
It’s hard being alive is something I’m sure we’ve all thought at one point in our lives. I wrote it during a particularly claustrophobic and dismal period in London. I honestly forgot about it. Fast forward onto an LA trip, chloe moriondo and I had just left a session with A.G Cook and I accidentally airdropped the demo to Chloe’s phone when I was trying to play another song in the car. A month later she messaged me the song saying she was obsessed with it and sent me a voicenoted acoustic rendition. I messaged back saying “you wanna do a verse?” and she made the song a million times better!!
chloe moriondo adds:
‘HARD BEING ALIVE’ IS THE LITTEST SONG ABOUT BEING SAD EVER. It makes me wanna drive fast and make mistakes 🙂
With his countless production credits on huge and upcoming artists’ releases, as well as his astonishing personal collection, Oscar continues to amaze with his effortless musical intuition and consistency in the studio.
