PREMIERE // CHAZ THOROGOOD Releases New EP ‘Limbo’
London-based musician takes us on a personal journey in his ambitious new EP, Limbo.

Living on a 45-year-old cabin cruiser on London’s canals with not many facilities the modern civilisation has to offer, such as TV or WIFI, Chaz Thorogood is quite an enigmatic figure. With a free spirit that infiltrates his music, the artist gives us an insight into his nomadic lifestyle as he unveils the stories captured on his new EP, Limbo. With a release scheduled for tomorrow, you can stream the entire EP now on our site.
Drawing on the singer-songwriter aesthetics and with the nature of a storyteller, Thorogood creates something truly remarkable on the Limbo tracks. Production-wise it encompasses pure simplicity, letting deeper lyrical content flourish in all its glory.
Opening with the title track Limbo, Chaz Thorogood effortlessly crafts tasteful harmonies, tinged with a personal tone. The strumming guitar patterns shine in a refined manner on the next single, Four Walls. As warm crooning sets the allure, the affectionate crescendo unveils the true power of Thorogood’s vocal effort. Shy and distant at a first listen, the vocals spark with passion hitting its full potential so easily.
In My Mind brings forth a slight tempo twist, adding a steady drumming beat accompanying the smooth determined guitars. There’s more straightforwardness and confidence in high-reaching vocal range when we hear “My dreams are my wishes”. You may also allow yourself a bashful hum along and sway of your hips on this one.
Rounding off with the elegant melodies of Pictures, the mood veers around the sensation of melancholia and longing, grasping a contemplative flare. Wrapping up the composition in a delicate style, Chaz Thorogood shapes the emotive and guitar-driven soundscape that falls anything but euphonious.
Chaz explains:
Each song has an individual story but they were all written during a period of instability. Although I wrote these songs towards the end of a relationship, I like to think they maintain an element of hopefulness and integrity. The title ‘Limbo’ felt like the strongest and simplest word to describe that chapter of my life. I didn’t really face any challenges with these songs. I got to work with my friends, recorded in some beautiful studios and had a lot of fun putting the EP together.
The next EP will be heavier; more hard hitting, and will be recorded with the band that I put together at the beginning of the year. We’re gigging new material on the festival circuit this summer and intend to record it in October.
Limbo EP is set for release on May 19th via Beatnik Creative.
