VANT Gig Review // Sold out London Show & New Music Video
VANT play sold out London show and release new music video for the song FLY-BY ALIEN.
Do you believe in life on other planets? Or perhaps, just aliens? If the answer is No, I suppose now is the best time to change your mind.
VANT from the Planet Earth (that’s how they call themselves) played a show at The Lexington in London two weeks ago. A sold out London show, worth to mention, and I was there to witness. Definitely, it didn’t feel like a Tuesday night! Of course, Wednesday morning was more painful.
Anyway, they had been on my radar for a long time and I was so happy to see that the entire performance went down really well. Kicking off with the heavy guitars of The Answer the band effortlessly moved to the next song and the next one and the next.. With no intention of stopping whatsoever. Like ever. Speeding up through the setlist VANT made sure all the fans’ favourites were played, such as Parasite and Parking Lot, but also they presented some new tunes.
VANT dropped the new single FLY-BY ALIEN last week which is another great combination of brilliant lyricism and catchy riffs. With Mattie Vant‘s strong vocals the song will stay in your head for quite a while. Produced by the band’s regular collaborator Sam Miller, the track has already drawn many critical comparisons with artists such as Pixies, Manic Street Preachers, The Strokes and DFA 1975.
FLY-BY ALIEN is about an extraterrestrial travelling through the universe to find a planet that can support life – says vocalist/guitarist Mattie Vant. The alien stumbles upon Earth and contemplates destroying the planet but instead leaves its residents with a transmission of hope: ‘You have a meaning, you have a purpose / This life is short, make sure it’s worth it.’
The music video for the song FLY-BY ALIEN has been directed by Youth Hymns (Wolf Alice’s Freazy and Slaves’ The Hunter) so watch it below. It’s pretty cool!
Finishing the main set off with Do You Know Me? and stage invasion VANT met all expectations and when everyone thought that was the end the band decided to play two more songs Are We Free? and Karma Seeker. As I said earlier, they seemed like they would never stop. I was still waiting for them to come back on stage after all had finished. You never know, right?
Meaningful lyrics, passion and honesty make them stand out from other bands on the current music scene. Taking on significant topics such as politics and equality VANT have a potential to become that loud voice [or scream in lack of a better word] of their generation.
Delivering that peculiar blend of punk and grunge with all the stage invasions and already great connection with the audience, VANT won’t definitely go unnoticed. Can’t wait to see what they’ve been hiding from us.
