Packed with fervour and energy, the biggest headline show from Marmozets will be one to remember.

Marmozets - O2 Forum - London

Friday night marked an unforgettable performance from Marmozets, as they took over the O2 Forum Kentish Town for the biggest show of their career.

The energy was next level, and they proved themselves to be even better live than on record, a feat that very few bands can achieve. With this being such an important show for the band, there was a lot of buzz and hype leading up to the night, and the band only added to the anticipation as they hinted earlier that day that they had something special planned.

Although the Yorkshire quintet were about to play their biggest headline show to date, there was no sign of nervousness as the band confidently took to the stage with Play, with frontwoman Becca Macintyre confidently stomping around the stage with a charismatic stage presence. From the first note, it was clear that the band had the audience in their palms as they created an atmosphere that can only be described as electric.

As the last screams from Play faded away, no time was wasted before the band charged forward with the blistering Why Do You Hate Me?. Becca danced around the stage whilst guitarists Sam Macintyre and Jack Bottomley wowed with their immaculate playing, and it was clear that this was what the band was destined for, as they looked right at home in front of 2000 or so adoring fans. Like A Battery came crashing in with a tantalising bass riff that formed the backbone of the track, as bassist Will Bottomley played with an unabashed confidence. The poppier drive of the track makes it the perfect track for a boogie to, which Becca certainly delivered on.

Driving on straight into Particle, you’d be left staring transfixed as all instrumentalists demonstrated their virtuosity in the captivating opening. Headbang-inducing riffs made this one of the heavier moments of the set, as it sent the crowd into a frenzy of moshing and crowdsurfing. The catchy Lost In Translation prompted an energetic jump-along from the crowd, whilst the upbeat Habits continued to feed the spark of energy that was present all night.

Debuting a new track called We Are Strange, the band mentioned “it’s about an idea we’ve got and we want to share it with you”. Sam and Becca’s octave vocals in the chorus were sure to send shivers down your spine, and as they continued with Captivate You, the shivers would persist through the rousing track as impassioned guitars ripped through a clapping crowd.

Cry marked one of the most special moments of the evening, as it saw the band performing this intimate track for the first time. It was at this moment that the reason for a piano being onstage was revealed, as Sam left his guitar to play the stunning opening of the track and Josh left his drum kit in favour of a guitar. You could feel every emotion from every member of the band, and as the track grew into an explosive ending, it was one of the moments where you are reminded of how much power music is able to hold.

Encoring with Run With The Rhythm and Major System Error, it was a lively finish to the evening as Sam asked everyone to get on each other’s shoulders for a final sing-along to the chorus.

It’s very refreshing to see a band with as much zest as Marmozets; rarely do you see a group of musicians who are so dedicated to their craft, and although they are well known for their high-octane live performances, the band still doesn’t fail to blow us away with their ferocity. Their stage presence is something out of this world, and you can’t help but be encapsulated by their performance. There were times when I questioned if the venue was enough to hold all the boundless energy that they had, and we have no doubts that they will only go from strength to strength.
