CATHOLIC ACTION Gig Review // Photo Gallery from the Dome Tufnell Park Show
CATHOLIC ACTION play a show at The Dome Tufnell Park in London.
My favourite Scots are back!
Landing a spot on the Hot New Artists to Watch 2016 list Catholic Action played a gig last week (Feb 24) in London. Smashing The Dome Tufnell Park before Swim Deep owned the stage [yes, yes I know, supporting these guys again – I don’t know if they can’t get rid of them or if it’s the other way around] the band delivered what they do best – a soft classic poppy rock blend.
I had a pleasure to see the Glasgow four-piece performing a couple of months ago so I kind of knew what to expect. But there were a few surprises. I’m always glad to see a band’s improvement.
Opening with a slightly revamped L.U.V. (due Mar 18 as the first official single via Luv Luv Luv Records) Catholic Action make a perfect introduction to some of their previous offerings. The Real World and Rita get a play letting the group display the melodic guitars and warm up the crowd.
Moving on to Breakfast, New Years and Stars & Stripes which are examples of heavy but catchy riffs and up-tempo drums you sense a happy vibe throughout the entire arrangement. Worth to mention, that the new material sees Catholic Action turning towards a heavier direction, especially on an instrumental level. I really look forward to listening to that debut album… How’s it going in the studio, guys?
Before Catholic Action showcase some good oldies like Say Nothing and Catching Up, the frontman of the band – Chris McCrory – makes a few comments about being in London again, the length of his hair (always obsessed with the hair!) and Ryan Clark’s (drums) birthday just to finish it all off with the track The Shallows. We all love a little bit of misery, don’t we?
Catholic Action are without a doubt one of the finest upcoming bands bringing us the best new music so make sure to catch them on tour. You don’t want to be sorry after missing out!
