VANT Gig Review // The Dome Tufnell Park

VANT bring their mighty set to The Dome Tufnell Park in London.

One of those bands that truly makes a difference. One of those that truly makes you feel good about living on planet Earth.

VANT embarked on UK music scene in the late 2014 and since then not only they’ve grown and evolved a lot but also firmly strengthened their position amongst other bands. As for such a young group their performances are one of a kind. They know it. And their fans know it.

I went to VANT‘s gig at The Dome Tufnell Park last week and since I’d seen this band playing live before I thought I knew what to expect. Oh boy, how was I wrong!

This is what happened.

Trying out some peculiar practices and using hanging guitar as a gong, the band open with a loud question Won’t you give me the answer? The unleashed powerful guitars send a clear message from the very first note. They are serious about what they do and they mean it.

Mattie Vant‘s roaring vocals echo across the room whilst loud cheers welcome the favourites such as Peace & Love and Birth Certificate. Between the tracks I Don’t Believe In God and Headed For The Sun the frontman mentions it’s their biggest headline tour so far what obviously, get even louder screams from the audience.

Moving on from weighty riffs of PARASITE to the intensifying drums of Time & Money and Karma Seeker the singer effortlessly lead the audience telling them to forget the outside world for a moment, to just lose themselves for that slightest period of time and simply have fun. We all have our struggles but let’s just forget them for this one night.

The absolute stand-outs are songs Parking Lot and their latest single Fly-By-Alien which allow VANT to unveil their mental nature and that’s exactly what fans came here to witness. Whereas the next one DO YOU KNOW ME?.. Well, everyone knows what happens during that song, don’t they?

A few people emerge on stage, a few moshers get on each other’s shoulders, a few bodies fly over from the stage. All that followed by a few (unsuccessful) security attempts to stop it. Great view, I must admit.

But of course, people won’t let them go down that easily. VANT return for the encore spinning more craziness with the song Berners Lee and the outstanding cover of Rihanna’s Work. As they say: It’s our last song but it is not our song. And you know what? Rihanna should perhaps consider covering VANT for a change.

Taking on subjects such as equality and personal identity with rather high, as for young lads, political and social awareness VANT are destined to become the loud voice of their generation. And the process has already begun.

At the end of their set the band thank everyone in the room for coming down and say “We are VANT from planet Earth” and you are glad you inhabit the same planet as they do.

Have a look at some sick photos from their smashing set at The Dome Tufnell Park below.
