Brooding with dark ambition, Black Tree is a change from the upbeat indie we’re used to from King Nun.

West London quartet King Nun unveils one of their darkest tracks yet with Black Tree. The newest single is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album MASS, which will be released on October 4th via Dirty Hit. Instead of the usual happy-go-lucky indie sound we’ve previously heard from the band, Black Tree slows the pace down for an urgent, gripping lament that touches upon themes of growing up. Low guitars combine with forlorn vocals to create a dark atmosphere, and the bleakness is further magnified by the urgency of the track.

Speaking more about it, vocalist Theo Polyzoides says:

‘Black Tree’ is a hard run through something bleak, and I think it had to be done. The album is really autobiographical; it’s full of songs about becoming, songs about reminiscing, songs about making an album. It’s a tribute to teenage angst, to naivety, to memories both melancholic and despairingly sad – to the need to step up to the plate.
