SLOWLY SLOWLY Announce New Album ‘Race Car Blues’

After a strong showing in 2019, which saw them ranking on Australia’s triple j’s Hottest 100 Songs list, Slowly Slowly have unveiled their third album and accompanying lead single.

Slowly Slowly 2020

Due out February 28th via UNFD, Race Car Blues takes us through the last 18 months of crucial self-assessment and development since Slowly Slowly’s critically acclaimed album St. Leonards was released. It’s a new “era of triumph” for the band.

On the album, frontman Ben Stewart said:

For me, Race Car Blues (album) feels like not being a victim anymore, in any sense of it, and really taking responsibility. You realise as you get to your late 20s, no one’s going to fix you, no one gives a fuck, the world keeps turning and everyone’s on their own trajectories. If you’re not looking out for yourself, you’ll just get left behind or fall by the wayside, you’ll wake up and all of those dreams you had don’t get actualised.

For me, it was about knuckling down and asking myself, “what’s important to me?”. If being a good, honest songwriter was important to me, I’m obviously going to be a lot better at that if I’m a happier person in myself, and confident. It was about creating an environment where I could do that.

The single of the same name, Race Car Blues, is a low-key energetic single that takes on the chasm between whom Stewart felt he was and where he wants to be. The song builds from a soft 2000s rock song into one that showcases the strongly emotive vocals of the band. In the video, burglars are seen taking what they want. Eventually, Stewart has to decide if he’s going to take what he wants, too, or if he’ll sit idly by because he’s comfortable with the life he has at present.
