The track is lifted off his newest EP QUOTA, a five-track compilation that will make your head spin with spellbinding sounds and woozy melodies.

Los Angeles-based creative Tim Atlas is back with another body of work in the form of QUOTA, his newest EP which sees Tim flourishing not only musically, but also lyrically as he guides you through his introspective thoughts by his candid songwriting. The EP found its origins before the pandemic, but took on shape during that period as Tim found himself constrained to his living room instead of the studio. Despite the limited physical confines, the sounds of the EP far expand beyond any borders, swimming alongside pop and R&B sensibilities while dabbling with soul influences; it’s a sound that has made Tim unique and continues to be his hallmark. Thematically, the EP narrates how Tim, a self-confessed introvert, adapted to the strains of life in lockdown and bears much of the same uncertainty of feelings that has plagued many of us in the course of the past year.

Sharing more about his mental state as he was writing, Tim opens up:

Throughout the last year, I’ve felt the full spectrum of emotions, feeling balanced in my life then unbalanced, bouncing back and forth.

The feature single of the EP, Water, manages to encapsulate this uncertainty in a focused way as it centres around the disconnection we can feel from our immediate external circumstances. Characterising Tim’s depression as both an all-engulfing water and a relentless monster lurking beneath the surface, it tries to makes sense of the gap between the happiness experienced by seemingly everyone else known, and the apathy that’s felt at his core. Through minimalistic electronics and effervescent guitars, a seemingly tranquil soundscape will soothe you and draw you into a false sense of security before the lyrics hit you, and you’ll be left with a deep memory of the track even after it’s finished playing.
