SMOKEHOUSE Share Lush New Single ‘Too Many’
Bringing a wave of prismatic synths and suave bass lines, Too Many is the encapsulating new single from Canadian duo Smokehouse.

After being introduced to each other by mutual friends in 2010, Daniel MacKenzie and Peter Mol built up their musical collaboration in a slow-burn manner, only beginning to work together seven years later on the project we now know as Smokehouse. However, good things come to those who wait and this time has allowed the musicians to independently explore their creative ideas, before conjoining the best of both minds and presenting their lush offerings under the one roof of Smokehouse.
With intentional deliberation and a carefully crafted vision, Too Many is the latest single from the duo and it exemplifies the group’s ebullience in letting things unfold at their natural pace. Instead of rushing through production, the track has taken time to become crafted into its final state but this patience has paid off, with an irresistible soundscape where listeners will find themselves completely consumed. The melody hypnotises you with a magnetic draw and effortless development, as laid-back rhythms and honeyed bass lines make it impossible to think about anything besides the immediate sounds entering your ears. While the vocals border on an emotion-induced paralysis, the gloom of the lyricism is masked through the sweet tonal quality and you’ll be lulled into a sense of make-believe tranquility and safety.
Sharing more about the track, the duo explains:
‘Too Many’ was a song that took its time unfolding. Originally it started as a vibe worktape in LA with Jon Joseph. It came back home with us and eventually became the floating psych experience it is now after a couple years of identity crisis, and has become one of our favorite songs we’ve ever worked up.
