Following the badass IDGAF with a streak of honesty and vulnerability is I Lie To Me, the latest single from As It Is.

Three years on from The Great Depression, an album that was brave for its time and showed a complete vulnerability within alt-rock music, As It Is are reinventing themselves, but ensuring they include this unrestrained honesty within their new work. A little while back the band released IDGAF, which stood as a complete ‘letting go’ moment, and evoked rage and passion and angst in listeners. As It Is’ brand new single, I Lie To Me, is a softer single, but it holds the same passion.

Not taking any shame in admitting “we’re unwell and we have been,” As It Is are writing all their tracks with us, the listeners in mind. Turning their – and our – pain, upset, anxiety, into something we can use as a remedy, of sorts. The new single utilises Patty Walter’s emotive vocals, and layers them with enjoyable alt-rock guitars. Shadowing, fuzzy background harmonies portray the haze everyone seems to be in; the fog over our eyes – but it’s clearing, as As It Is’ music is giving us, and them, a release.

‘I Lie To Me’ is about the days where you wake up and try, only to end up exactly where you started. Where the only distance walked is the step or two taken beyond the threshold of your limits. It is that unrestrained resentment that inspired this record, and it’s ironic how that defeated apathy led to one of my personal favourites on this upcoming album.
