Surf poppers Dutch Criminal Record are here to remind you of the wonderful wooziness of summer with another vibrant single, Hey Charlie. Coming ahead of their EP It’s Gonna Be OK, which is set for release on August 27th, it builds on the anticipation and helps the band further establish themselves as ones to watch.

Diffused with slinging guitars and twanging electronics, the track feels like sunshine in musical form that warms you up with its hearty melodies. As it jangles along with beaming vocals and a positively upbeat tambourine, the playful repeated calls of ‘Hey Charlie’ almost feel like a teasing track you would sing around a campfire with your friends. The optimism of the track is irresistible and you’ll be strung along for a fun joyride all the way through.

Sharing more on how the track came to be, guitarist Joe Delaney-Stone shares:

I wrote ‘Hey Charlie’ for a fan who pre-saved one of our singles last year, doing this thing on our instagram where if you pre-saved our single I’d write you a song and post it. So I wrote the first verse for a fan called Charlie and as soon as I’d posted it I thought “damn that’s actually pretty good!” so I decided to make a song out of it. I wrote the lyrics later on in the year, they’re about feeling nostalgic for the first lockdown in March where I didn’t feel any pressure to be productive. The Character Charlie represents my procrastination (kind of like a devil on my shoulder kinda thing), I thought that was a kinda cool way to adapt that lyric from the song I originally wrote for our fan on instagram.
