Swedish-Iranian songstress Ayelle has had quite the globe-spanning upbringing; after growing up in Sweden and Spain, she moved to London to continue her pursuit of music, before relocating again to Los Angeles where she is now based. This exposure to a variety of cultures and experiences has lent itself to her introspective style of songwriting, as she draws inspiration from her own stories to craft a personal and affecting style that pulls listeners into the heart of her world. It’s a style that takes derivations from R&B, but adds in other influences from chilled bedroom-pop and cinematic electronics to personalise it and push it to the forefront with its relevance.
She teases at all that she still has in-store for listeners by releasing another single from her coming debut album VIII, in the form of wistful new single Still A Boy. Laying on forlorn electronics over apathetic beats, the pathos is built into the core of the track and transcends through the speakers to grip at your heart. Ayelle’s own hypnotising vocals take on a doleful tone as it navigates through the process of falling out of love with someone, and even if you’ve never had to experience those feelings yourself, the intensity of the track will give you a good taste of how searing it is.
Explaining the track and her inspirations in further details, Ayelle elaborates:
It can be incredibly difficult to leave a relationship when the other person doesn’t want to let you go. Whilst writing this I was trying to ease my own guilt around a recent break up, reminding myself of my reasons and the fact that ultimately every person is responsible for their own happiness.
