SAMM HENSHAW Gig Review // Village Underground

SAMM HENSHAW plays a sold out show at Village Underground in London.

The sold out Samm Henshaw‘s show captivated and seduced the lively crowd at Village Underground on Monday night. As keys created an eruptive entrance for Henshaw, the song Autonomy set the vibe for the night’s proceedings.

The Londoner is doing everything right at such a young age. After the recent signing with Columbia Records, supporting James Bay earlier this year and about to go on tour with Chance the Rapper, working on his masterpiece has payed off. The night after the headline London show, he played Later… with Jools Holland. Needless to say is well on his way.

Samm Henshaw showed such trust and rapport with his band, The Sound Experiment (similar to his EP title). Super tight on every beat and just generally looked like they had a ball up there. It was infectious to everyone in the crowd. Showing talents on the keys and guitar made the transition smooth throughout the entire set.

Last week’s Monday was a momentous occasion personally for the musician, having his family on one side of the stage and throwing a shout outs to grandma during his set.

One can’t deny that Samm Henshaw has the natural ability to perform and allure audiences. Putting on an epic show in terms of performance, using the stage like a pro and hypnotising his fans were done effortlessly all through out. He showed the genuine love for being on stage and made sure everyone was moving and just having a good time.

When you hear a voice like Henshaw‘s, be prepared to have your heart melted. With such a profound vocal range you immediately get captivated. Along with talented backing vocalists, harmonies were energetic and absorbing. Saturated with soul, you would think that he has been doing this for 50 years. This skilled 22-year-old brought it down in the track Redemption and then brought it right back up for Our Love. His songwriting is refined and catchy, hearing a wide range of influences in each track which translated faultlessly on stage.

His talented full band brought a contagious warmth and vibrance to the Village Underground, including a good old possibly unrehearsed song Wonderwall group sing-a-long but nailed it in the end.

And group bow to the end. Being joined by the support acts, Tom Walker and INTALEKT, up on stage Henshaw made the overwhelming love in the room the lasting expression.
