THE DRUMS Return With New Single ‘Blood Under My Belt’
The fourth studio album Abysmal Thoughts has been announced.

The day when The Drums return has finally come, and we’re beyond excited.
It’s been three years since their last album, Encyclopedia, and seven since the self-titled debut. Now The Drums announce that they have signed with Anti Records and reveal the details of their fourth studio album. Abysmal Thoughts is set for release in June this year and while we wait impatiently The Drums deliver first cut to keep us occupied.
It feels like a constant heartbreak with them, but the kind of heartbreak you’re happy to go through. Already sounding like classic The Drums, Blood Under My Belt serves a blissful song aesthetic of sun-drenched guitars and straightforward lyrical content. With Jonny Pierce‘s upbeat yelp aligning with the euphoric melody, it is clear that Abysmal Thoughts will be ideal to soundtrack the upcoming summery days.
Abysmal Thoughts has come into being as a result of over a year of home recording between Los Angeles and Pierce‘s cabin in upstate New York. Still with the same guitar, synthesizer, drum machine and reverb unit he’s played since the beginning of The Drums, the musician found the sound he’s always held in his heart.
Jonny explains:
I said I wanted to let life happen? Well, the universe listened and life began to fuck me real good! But honestly, I make the worst art when I’m comfortable. The stuff that resonates with me the longest—and that resonates with others—is always the stuff that comes out of my misery.
Happiness can be confusing to me. It shows up out of nowhere, and before you can even get used to it, it’s vanished. But ‘Abysmal Thoughts’? I can rely on them—and with the political chaos that is raining down, who knows when these dark feelings will subside?
Abysmal Thoughts will be released on June 16th via Anti Records.
