SLØTFACE Release Hilarious New Video for ‘Empire Records’
Norway’s Sløtface share High Fidelity-inspired clip.

The Norwegian punk pop outfit balances being a strong political voice with a fun, fresh and charming outlook, not always to be taken too seriously.
The video for their most recent single, Empire Records adds another chapter to Sløtface’s John Cusack love affair. Inspired by the 2000 rom-com, ‘High Fidelity’, the band takes on a parodic and fun guise, not at all taking themselves seriously.
The super DIY approach, odd cross-dressing and the amount of cardboard involved in the making give the video a school theatre feel, and the overdramatic acting itself is worth a watch. As frontlady, Haley Shea explained to us: “The last single we released (Empire Records) is literally just a silly song about that record stores are cool. Not everything we do has a very politically charged message.” With bassist, Lasse Lokøy adding: “I think that’s important too. Show a different side of our band.” Well, this video certainly shows a different side.
The final punchline being the cover of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’ with “the audio removed due to copyright reasons”. Which is voiced over by the guitarist, Tor-Arne Vikingstad, rounding off by saying: “I guess, like, goodbye, and we’ll see you sometime – at a show maybe, or, I don’t know, somewhere.”
Sløtface are now set to bring their most recent EP Empire Records alongside a handful of new tracks across the pond, showcasing their passionate virtuosity and high energy sets to the US crowds at SXSW.
They will also support Los Campesinos! on their UK tour in April and May.
