FLYING VINYL FESTIVAL

FLYING VINYL bring music festival to SHAPES Hackney in London.

So the festival season has begun, the spring is full on and the summer is approaching.. Yeah, not just yet and not necessarily in London but at least the music doesn’t suck.

On Saturday (April 8th) the clubbing venue SHAPES in Hackney transformed into a home for many vinyl and music lovers. Organisers ran the event under the idea that The Revolution Will Not Be Digital which gathered a lot of supporters including a bunch of amazing bands. The line-up was sick.

From the new rockers ASYLUMS with their huge guitar driven bangers and YONAKA – Brighton four-piece with the charismatic stage presence and powerful vocals to THE AMAZONS who were so great they even got their own write-up on the pages of this website.

Another Brighton band – THE MAGIC GANG displaying some of their magic and casting a spell on everyone in the room. The favourite She Doesn’t See and Jasmine got to be played with some older tracks which definitely made the audience feel just Alright.

I must admit THE MAGIC GANG‘s fans were crazy. They literally went mental and smashed all the barriers. Even the security couldn’t stop them so from this time on the photography footage is slightly worse coz – no chance for standing in front of the stage. But it was brilliant! The band was brilliant.

More of Brighton locals (just to keep it varied, right?) – BLACK HONEY sounding HUGE. Distinctive female vocals floating in the room and strong riffs stuck in your head. Really looking forward to seeing what this band presents next!

And of course the headlining band – my favourite B-Town group – SWIM DEEP who brought all the trembling walls along and the loudest screams. Johnny on the trumpet on the intro, swinging melodies of Grand Affection, the crowd singing back their favourite lyrics as Don’t just dream in your sleep it’s just lazy of the track Honey and that One Song and we all felt like we Could Change the World.

SWIM DEEP did also pay a tribute to the band Viola Beach playing the song She Changes The Weather and getting a lot of cheers of applause in return. Followed by a big mosh pit and the confetti cannons during King City with that mental eight-and-a-half minute banger Fueiho Boogie at the end of the set, the band only proved, yet again, that they are so worthy of the headlining slot. But I’ve seen them performing so many times I wouldn’t possibly be able to write anything lessening.

Obviously, the line-up was full of amazing bands and the audience was brilliant. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to see them all but have a look below at some sweet pics of the groups that particularly got my full attention.

Also, check out Flying Vinyl website and get yourself some nice vinyl records.

And count me in for the next year’s festival! Defo going.
