What a crazy night! I’ve still got some bruises left on my body. Slowly, slowly fading away. Perhaps, worth to mention – the show was like two weeks ago.. Yep, the gig photographer’s life is not as easy as you would’ve thought. But of course I cherish every moment of it and I’ll accept every bruise.

Brummie lads definitely dominate on my playlist. Recently it’s been getting ridiculous if I’m to be honest. It’s like there’s some sort of source of musical genius in Birmingham. Anyone fancy a road trip?

Although, JAWS have got my full attention not that long ago they’ve managed to make a mess already. They weren’t and then suddenly they were. Unannounced. Uninvited. Unexpected. Every song in my headphones. In my head. In my life. I wouldn’t be able to throw them away even if I wanted to.

But obviously, I don’t want to.

I caught JAWS playing the gig at the Barfly in Camden earlier this month and that’s what happened.

And I feel like I’m still there.

The three-piece kicks off with new single What We Haven’t Got Yet which sees them following a slightly different direction. Along with Bad Company these tracks represent the shifting from the poppy synths of their debut album Be Slowly towards more edgy riffs and grungy nature. The change is good and I’ve got a feeling these boys will surprise us many, many times.

But the moment the room gets flooded with the crowd it becomes so obvious that everyone came here to hear their favourite songs. People all around me are having a vivid conversation discussing the titles whilst I’m getting crushed in the first row. It takes seconds for them to go mental. JAWS move to the drained guitars of the song Stay In and the dreamy Breeze. Connor Schofield, the lead singer of the band, easily conducts his vocals from Stay in Stay out Tell me what to do If I don’t hear from you to I won’t go and I will stay, we’ll always be right here to which the crowd sings along.

The trio’s stage presence is somehow hypnotizing. You’re certain the audience would follow them anywhere. In a positive way of course, not the creepy stalking way. And nothing says ‘hypnotizing’ more like the tune Toucan Surf. By slowing down the band deliver that distinctive indie-synth-pop of theirs and you can’t help yourself and just keep repeating these Three words “Every thing is ok”. And oh my, I probably lose it when they play my favourite NYE.

However, who am I kidding? Everyone is waiting for the tracks like Be Slowly and Friend Like You. One of the poppiest and catchiest songs Think Too Much Feel Too Little seems to be the all time favourite though. The screaming and jumping part is really intense in the small space like the Barfly. Interesting to watch you know, but the air would be nice too.

JAWS add some new material to the set and we get a glimpse of what is coming. The tracks like Cast and Work It Out are the examples of the evolving sound but they fit perfectly into the entire composition.  Everyone seems to be very content. I know I am.

The B-Town group finishes the set off with the swinging notes of Surround You and the almighty Gold, of course. The stage invasion and stage diving are so on by now. I’ve admired the simplicity and depth of the songwriting of theirs since the beginning. And that definitely remains. If the dreamy grunge blend exists, I’ll have it.
