SOCCER MOMMY Shares Music Video For ‘Inside Out’

Soccer Mommy aka Sophie Allison has released the latest visuals for Inside Out off of her upcoming mini-album Collection.

A constant and muted drum kick keeps the song moving alongside the charm of Sophie’s voice. The guitar line is simple and allows for the listener to focus more on the words of a pained high school experience and the softer melody in the vocals. Sophie has seemed to figure out what has worked with her own voice in these recent releases.

The visual style of the video is similar to her previous releases, but the lyrics are darker and more conflicted.

I wanted the ‘Inside Out’ video to have a darker feeling than our last. It is a song I wrote about feeling helpless about the future and the outcome of a relationship. It reflects a feeling of wanting to have a power over someone, but knowing that you actually have none. The video shows that loneliness in some moments, but – with the monster masks – also reflects a darker side, because those feelings bring out a person’s demons.

Although the direct shots of Sophie and her band get somewhat repetitive and the concept of literalizing your demons through Halloween masks is slightly obvious, the idea has some merit. Sophie had a vision for her lyrics and the masks execute her point without too much visual distraction.

Collection is set for release on August 4th via Fat Possum.

Sophie Allison will play her first ever UK shows this summer:
