Live: HINDS // Electric Brixton, London

Madrid’s Hinds brought the warm weather to London last Thursday night during their stop at Electric Brixton.

The band has been touring in support of their second album I Don’t Run which was released on April 6th.

The show marked a special moment for Hinds, who remarked that London-based NME was one of the band’s earliest supporters back when the group only contained members Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote. London itself was the city where they played their fourth ever show as a band, and their appearance last week was an obvious full-circle moment.

The combination of the sunny tunes and the insane London crowd made for an amazing night. Cosials asked the bouncers if the audience could be allowed to crowd surf and was met with a stiff decline. However, this did not stop the rebellious crowd. Spurred on by the obvious wishes of the band and the intense energy of their music, many fans rose to shoulders and crowdsurfed, with Perrote even joining in on their tune Davey Crockett.

The band showed off their real musical talent throughout the setlist, with killer new singles New For You and Finally Floating hitting just as hard as old hits Garden and Bamboo. A highlight of the night was during Cosials introduction of Tester. Her commentary on the line “should I’ve known before you were also banging her?” elicited cheers from the crowd, and the song’s intense, accusing energy had the entire room yelling along.

As the energy seemingly peaked after every song, the room was buzzing with approval and joy as the girls finished their set. With a large banner behind them that read “Hi we’re Hinds and we came here to rock”, Hinds had set the precedent for the night and followed it flawlessly.
