Live: JAPANESE BREAKFAST // Islington Assembly Hall, London
Japanese Breakfast played their biggest show in London to date last week.
However, Islington Assembly Hall had never felt more intimate.
Michelle Zauner’s electric energy permeated throughout the venue as she performed hit after hit from both her 2016 debut Psychopomp and sophomore effort Soft Sounds From Another Planet. This space-influenced concept album blends seamlessly with all of Zauner’s previous work because both records are grounded in her immense talent and honest performances.
In the middle of the set, Zauner slowed down, taking time to play This House. This lull in the set showed off her lyrical, softer side and offered a good contrast to the rest of her rock tunes. The final highlight occurred at the end of the encore when fans were treated to an excellent cover of Dreams by The Cranberries. Zauner’s harmonies with her drummer were a beautifully powerful way to end the night.
