Live: YONAKA // Heaven, London
Alternative rock quartet YONAKA from Brighton played a sold-out Heaven last week, just the night before the release of their hugely anticipated debut album, Don’t Wait ‘Til Tomorrow.
Having built such a following over the years on top of a reputation for a raucous live show, it’s no wonder that the London venue was filled to the brim with fans singing along to every word. Bouncing between the tiered stages clearly did not faze frontwoman Theresa Jarvis whatsoever as she effortlessly hit every note.
The set which largely consisted of songs from the album began with opening track Bad Company, followed by the now renamed track Awake. Before we knew it, guitarist George Edwards had lost his shirt, and the crowd lost their heads. Own Worst Enemy and Death By Love from 2018’s EP Creature broke up the set nicely before title track Don’t Wait ‘Til Tomorrow, leading on to an acoustic version of Guilty (For Your Love). Ending what was already a fiery show was the anthemic F.W.T.B., followed by the rousing Fired Up, showing that YONAKA enjoyed finishing on a high.
With a string of festivals lined up this summer, you’d be crazy to wait ’til tomorrow to catch them live.
