CAN’T SWIM Announce New EP ‘Foreign Language’
The New Jersey band has announced the October 11th release of their new EP Foreign Language and unveiled the first single, Filthy Rich feat. Spencer Pollard.
Can’t Swim have never been a band to shy away from pessimistic viewpoints and realistic mindsets. Vocalist and songwriter Chris LoPorto has previously said “evil surrounds us and in time, becomes a part of who we are. Let this band be a reminder of that” and the new EP certainly seems to be another reminder.
First release Filthy Rich is an angry-sounding but empowering anthem about feeling used, manipulated and taken advantage of by someone close to you, especially over money. The guitars rip through the song and give it the power it needs. It works great in collaboration with Spencer Pollard of Trash Talk, on an EP that is littered with promising collaborations. We’re especially excited to hear Foreign Language, featuring Adam Lazzarra of Taking Back Sunday, and Power, featuring Frank Carter.
On the lyrics of Filthy Rich, Chris LoPorto says:
Money makes people do awful things. It can turn friends into enemies and family members into distant strangers. The song is about feeling manipulated, used, and taken advantage of by someone who is close to you. The bridge always felt a bit empty and uninteresting in the demo stage to me but luckily my good friend Spencer Pollard, whose band Trash Talk I briefly played in years ago, was in town and came by the studio to sing on the song. After that it finally felt complete.
Foreign Language will be released on October 11th via Pure Noise Records.
