Live: INDIGO DE SOUZA // 7th St Entry, Minneapolis, MN
Indigo De Souza graced the 7th St Entry stage last week Friday for an amazing sold-out show.
The intensely talented singer is touring in support of her sophomore album Any Shape You Take, released earlier this year via Saddle Creek.
Indigo De Souza’s younger fanbase lined up outside of the venue in advance, eager to secure their spots in the small club venue. A sweet and comical solo set from Dan Wriggins of Friendship started the evening. Despite having to compete with muffled noise from next door’s Wrestlepalooza, Wriggins quickly built a rapport with the crowd, even pausing to joke about his desire to be in the neighboring mainroom.
Opening with slow-building Bad Dream, Indigo De Souza was all smiles as she took to the stage. This is just one of De Souza’s songs that showcases her unbelievable range, from pleading and desperate lower notes to a magical falsetto.
Her third song How I Get Myself Killed was an instant hit, recognized off of her 2018 debut I Love My Mom. The power lies in its simplicity, De Souza is able to punch out the lyrics and add weight with an intense live guitar performance. De Souza sucks you in and holds your attention, you can get lost floating between her deeply personal lyrics and intricate instrumentals.
Hearing Any Shape You Take live felt like a huge privilege; the studio recordings are gorgeous, but there’s something special about seeing De Souza’s raw talent live. There is no doubt she will play larger and larger venues, and the intimacy of these smaller shows is unbeatable.
