Live: LÉON // Varsity Theater, Minneapolis, MN
LÉON brought her “Fade Into A Dream” tour through Minneapolis earlier this month.
LÉON, the stage name of Swedish singer Lotta Lindgren, delighted adoring fans with longtime favorites as well as a collection of tunes from her most recent album Circles.
Released earlier this year, Circles is a gorgeous example of Lindgren’s years of experience. Her characteristic rich vocals pair beautifully with stunning instrumentals. In a recent Instagram post, Léon says, “Been a few sleepless nights making this album to be honest. Ups and downs like always. But now I’m just so happy to let go of it and let you have it, and hopefully you’ll embrace it and make it yours.” LÉON’s willingness to share her art with her fans is impressive given her deeply personal lyrics and emotional vulnerability. It is no wonder that releasing this album feels like “letting go,” and it is no surprise that the fans have embraced the album in such a strong way.
One highlight of the set included a dance-y rendition of Soaked, with fans screaming the lyrics back to Lindgren. LÉON made the venue feel like a warm, safe space (aided by warm, soft lighting culminating in a large circle light at center stage). As the crowd loosened up throughout the set, the energy became more celebratory. Concluding the normal set with You and I off of her debut album LÉON, LÉON danced across the stage, connecting with those in the front row. Thankfully she reappeared for a two-song encore. Dedicated fans were treated to Tired of Talking from the singer’s debut 2015 EP. As LÉON concluded the night with Surround Me, the warm, glorious energy that she had cultivated filtered out onto the street with the audience, buzzing with talk of favorite moments and a shared concert experience.
