AUGUSTINE Shares Heartfelt Ballad ‘Summer Wine’

Reflective of the intimate and sorrowful subject matter, Augustine’s frail vocals and cinematically haunting visuals naturally capture the essence of heartbreak.

Augustine

Hailing from Sweden, Augustine is an indie-pop sensation, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Amassing over 20 million streams already, Augustine’s sound was birthed from his love for 70s pop and contemporary chillwave, and his lyrical descriptions of delicate love stories caught the attention of many. After winning the title of ‘Pop Artist of the Year’ at the 2020 Swedish Independent Music Awards for his debut EP Wishful Thinking, Augustine returns with the release of his poignant track Summer Wine, which is taken from his forthcoming debut album.

Contrasting with the happiness that sunshine typically connotes, Summer Wine is an achingly emotional post-breakup ballad which reveals how, even during the summery months, heartbreak can befall on you. On a bed of soft, graceful piano melodies, Augustine’s feathery and sensitive vocals envelop you in a warm hug which comforts you through the melancholic lyricism.

Augustine shares:

I wrote most of the lyrics in spring, on a train to my family’s house on the Swedish west coast. The weather got brighter each day and people seemed so happy and hopeful, but I felt more distant than ever. ‘Trying out our summer wine’ became a symbol for the little things that you took for granted with someone, until it’s over and you just can’t get them out of your head.

Just like how Summer Wine melodically flows like water, the visuals for the track depict Augustine pedalling a boat along the ocean at the Swedish island Gotland. A true collaborative effort, the song was written and produced by Augustine, Rassmus Björnson and Agrin Rahmani, and the visuals were also recorded by Björnson and Rahmani.
