THE BAY RAYS release new track Aphelion.

Kent trio has shared first single to be taken from their upcoming debut EP, Satisfaction.

New offering, Aphelion, serves a slight shift pace comparing to previous releases New Home and Four Walls. The somewhat low-tempo guitars steadily intensify as Harry Nicoll‘s towering vocals deliver melodic choruses. Driven by dominant basslines and emotive lyrics the track shapes a picture, an illusion perhaps, of inner struggle and longing for a distant desire. Raw and cold at first, Aphelion masterfully builds up to an unreachable but strong affection.

Harry says of the track:

It’s about having a closeness with someone, but you’re longing for something more. Although raw in both its subject matter and verses, it builds to a luscious, almost fragile chorus that manages to bottle the weird, almost self-destructive beauty that can be found in starting to understand these feelings of desire.

Music video that goes alongside the song makes an engaging visual accompaniment as images reveal the whole story in front of our eyes. Frontman of the group explains the idea behind it:

We’ve been fascinated by the antihero, “Drive” by Nicolas Winding Refn to “Badlands” by Terrence Malik to Hunter S .Thompson and photography work by William Eggleston. The narrative of the song is about a sense of longing and injustice in a world that doesn’t seem fair, a character who is an outcast to society, but won’t stop trying to improve his situation and not go quietly.

The single Aphelion is available now on the band’s own label imprint, East Wing Records.

The Bay Rays have also announced their first headline show on December 3rd at The Forum in Tunbridge Wells.
