DAN OWEN’s Stunning Performance at The Waiting Room

DAN OWEN delivers a beautiful live experience at The Waiting Room in London.

It is a Tuesday night when a bewildered artist takes to the stage at The Waiting Room in London. The atmosphere is tinted with a special and genuine feeling floating in the air.

Shortly, with a voice beyond his years, Dan Owen unveils the rich and profound repertoire to a sold-out crowd. However, that still comes as a small surprise when he says: “I couldn’t believe when they told me there were actually people coming down to the show”.

A transformation the artist is going through on stage is truly remarkable. In one second he’s just a boy making jokes, in the next – a song-writer who easily creates mature and meaningful harmonies. The silence falls as Dan Owen proceeds with every offering.

The opening tracks What Is A Man and Splinter smoothly underline his distinctive deep vocal range from the very start. Opposed to the title, the following euphonious When I Die, stated as “the happiest song” so far by the singer himself, is more upbeat of a tune.

Tonight’s show is played in celebration of his recently released EP, Open Hands and Enemies, which went straight in at No.1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Chart. And as we find out, the stunning song Made to Love You is a story about Owen’s friend and a girl, who simply wasn’t right for him, and was written after the two spent some time in a pub.

Next we hear: “Did anyone see a super moon? Does anyone think it was true?”, when he suitably presents the latest single Moonlight. Shrewsbury-born musician beautifully forms the passionate melodies that gracefully travel across the room to finally reach your soul.

I believe the stand-out moment of the set, if there’s is one, is a well-crafted track Fall Like a Feather. Delicate in its form but strong in its message, the song sets a soothing live experience. Some people even dare to hum along when Owen says: “That doesn’t happen often”.

A new song lands on tonight’s set list too, On Your Feet, which gives the opportunity to clap your hands and move your feet a little bit more. Each track is filled with pure and authentic emotion even if the set may appear monotonous and not really varied to some.

Dan Owen finishes off with two tracks taken from his last year’s debut EP, Bad For Me. Riding Out This Storm and Little Red Rooster which once again emphasise the artist’s immense talent as a vocalist, lyricist and multi-instrumentalist.

The extraordinary musician surely is one to watch these coming months, as they will shape his position on new music scene and make his fan base grow even faster. You surely don’t want to miss his next shows. Indeed, they are beautiful.
