AS IT IS Re-open Old Wounds in New Video

Pop-punk rockers share emotional video for the track Hey Rachel.

The Brighton’s quintet has released new video for Hey Rachel, taken from their sophomore album, okay.

I believe we can all agree that music has healing powers. When confronting your past sometimes it’s better to just write a song. Of course, it might hurt a little bit (a lot most likely) but it is purifying. As It Is are a perfect example here.

Hey Rachel is a personal message from frontman Patty Walters to his sister, a tangle of many emotions from pain and sorrow to anger and regret. He sings “It’s a shame this has taken me so long to say”.

Directed by Joshua Halling the clip creates a somewhat parallel events to their story as Walters explains:

‘Hey Rachel’ was an especially cathartic song to write, re-opening old wounds after nearly ten years. Writing the song demanded being painfully honest with both myself and my sister, neither of which I was particularly comfortable doing. I had to re-live past feelings of fear, sorrow, anger, pain, and, most of all, regret. The song is an apology I’m relieved and proud to have finally said. The video was written and directed by Joshua Halling, who also spearheaded the video for ‘Pretty Little Distance’. I love his interpretation of the song – re-imagining mine and Rachel’s story with an empowering, inspirational feel with a happy ending in hindsight. It’s such a beautiful and powerful music video, and I’m ecstatic to finally be sharing it.

okay. is a follow-up to the band’s brilliant debut, Never Happy, Ever After, and it’s available now on Fearless Records.

As It Is are currently touring in Australia but they’ll be back in Europe next month to support State Champs.
