THE LEMON TWIGS ‘Wanna Prove To You’

The Lemon Twigs unveil new music video, and it is a little bit cringy.

The Lemon Twigs aka brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario recently released their debut, Do Hollywood, a soppy affair drenched in ill-fitted nostalgia.

Following up their cringe-worthy album-attempt, the Long Island brothers put out a video for single, I Wanna Prove To You. Giving off that daft feeling of a school prom gone wrong in a terrible low-budget 60’s film, I Wanna Prove To You is anything but a flattering romantic declaration.

It is never a good sign when the director – out of place – has to explain what the video is about. Painfully awkward, the clip works mostly as a distraction from the fact that this is neither a very great song, nor a tremendous cinematographic effort. Coming together in all its bland daftness and cringing under-achieving, the video and the tune is a perfect match, and frankly, I can think of a thousand things I’d rather spend my time doing.

The video is directed by Nick Roney, who is claiming nothing in the video is scripted, (I highly doubt that), and attempts to explore the concept of love by bringing The Lemon Twigs to his real-life grandparents’ house in Utah. An interesting concept, though the concoction we end up with is not as appetising as the idea may seem.

 Roney explains the video:

The song is about proving your love which is something I can’t really fathom because of how generally self-centered I am. But I figured my grandparents knew something about it because they had been married for 50-years, so their relationship seemed to make an appropriate backdrop for the video. Overall the experience was heartbreaking for me and I never would have imagined that things would have gone south as they did. Now that my wounds have sort of healed, I wish the Lemon Twigs and my grandparents the best and hold no ill-will against them. My aunt recently told me that the adoption process is underway, which I guess could make for a lively Thanksgiving.

Do Hollywood is out now 4AD.
