DIET CIG Unveil Video with a Riot Girrl Twist for Their Latest Cut ‘Tummy Ache’.

The New York duo delves into a rose tinted, Sofia Coppola-esque universe with the video for their latest single Tummy Ache, which features girls from two different female rock music camps.

Tummy Ache is the first single of Diet Cig’s forthcoming debut album, and its feminist agenda and grungy edge already anticipate for a welcome debut.

Directed by Robert Kolodny, Tummy Ache visualises a sense of girl community and the ecstatic feel music brings to all regardless of gender. Though Alex Luciano sings: “My stomach hurts, cause it’s hard to be a punk whilst wearing a skirt” this video makes just that seem like the easiest thing.

Diet Cig explained the video and their commitment to Girl’s Rock Camps:

The video stars members of Willie Mae Rock Camp in NYC and Girls Rock Philly, and follows a day-in-the-life of them as touring musicians. The video also subverts the classic idea of a girly sleepover, and turns it into a zine making, patriarchy smashing craft fest. We wanted to show the power in friendship and that while it may be hard to be a punk while wearing a skirt, we are loud, we are powerful and we’re always ready to show up.

New album Swear I’m Good At This due out April 7th on Frenchkiss Records.
